Fiber is used extensively throughout mobile networks, especially between the base station and the packet core.  As the RAN increasingly evolves into D-RAN, C-RAN and cloud RAN, the need for fiber increases exponentially, connecting the radio units to the baseband processors.  Who will supply this fiber?  How much will be needed? And what performance gains do these new architectures enable?
